ABOUT ME
Born and raised in the east coast. Like most millennials, I came to believe I can do anything which just left so many choices that it was almost too hard to know what was I good at? What "should” I be doing? What was I meant to do? I want to do something that matters…
Like most women, I developed a looming sense of doubt: sense of doubt in my abilities and decisions, discomfort with my body, and a variety of stress from typical life changes from moving out of my childhood home, starting college to moving to NYC and starting a career.
I always loved talking to people one on one and getting an opportunity to really know someone. I guess my mom was right- always preferred one friend at a time instead 5. My interest in understanding how our perception about things, or rather our story can change how we feel really paved the way for me to pursue a career in talk therapy.
Approach
This concept of thinking about my thinking drew me to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is an active approach focused on learning about the way you think to change the way you feel and what you do. I like to think of it as being a “detective of your mind.” For me what has really stuck is that we don't have to work so hard at changing how we feel because we don’t control our feelings! It is an impossible feat because nobody would ever choose depressed or anger etc. but rather, the focus is on experimenting with looking at things differently and changing our behavior. It is this concept that has been life-changing for me, my clients and co-workers over the years.
